ABOUT THE SAVANNAH BANANAS

The Savannah Bananas are a member of the Coastal Plain League, consisting of 16 teams throughout North and South Carolina featuring the top college players from around the country.  The Coastal Plain League has been in existence for more than 20 years.

The Coastal Plain League is considered one of the top prospect leagues for professional players in the country along with the Northwoods League and Cape Cod League.

Players can be drafted by professional teams once they graduate from high school.  Those that choose to enroll in a four year university then cannot be drafted again until they turn 21 years old.  Our players are those playing at major colleges such as University of Georgia, Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia Southern, along with many others.  Players on our roster have been recommended to our team by scouts and college coaches wishing to see those players compete against top-notch competition.

More than 1,200 players from the Coastal Plain League have been drafted in to professional baseball and 80 alums have already made it to the major leagues with more than 600 still in the minor league baseball system.  Coastal Plain League alumni in the Major Leagues includes 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander, Nationals star Ryan Zimmerman, former Red Sox Kevin Youkilis, and NFL Super Bowl champion quarterback Russell Wilson.
