A woman was just told that she has breast cancer. A million concerns flash through her mind.  The first priority is obtaining care that cures her of disease.  However, this does not have to lead to permanent disfigurement and loss of one’s self-image. The Georgia Institute for Plastic Surgery (GIPS) is a nationally recognized leader in research and performance of breast reconstruction.  GIPS created #TurnItPink to support educating women about their options for breast reconstruction and to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Small businesses, volunteers, and survivors will help GIPS create over 10 events during the month of October.  This series of events is designed to increase awareness of breast cancer reconstruction, to educate women about surgical options, to empower women enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their health, to raise funds to support a national research fund – the Plastic Surgery Foundation, and to help local indigent and underserved patients receive essential care.

Starting in September, #TurnItPink will make small pink rubber ducks available at 15-20 local businesses.  For a $5.00 donation (or three ducks for $10), donors may honor or memorialize their loved one.  Each donor has the opportunity to write the name of their loved one on the duck(s) which will be accumulated; and on Saturday, October 1, 2016 #TurnItPink will kick of the series of events with an epic launch event at Savannah’s historic Grayson Stadium!

#TurnItPink anticipates hundreds of survivors and supporters joining us and enjoying family-friendly fun.  We’re planning a celebrity 3-inning kickball game followed by a full-feature movie in the stadium!  Everyone will enjoy treats like pink lemonade from Parker’s, pink ice cream from Leopold’s, pink treats, and the pink fire truck from the Savannah Fire Department, just to name a few.

Throughout October, #TurnItPink will host a variety of events which bring the community together to celebrate the empowerment and education of women in Savannah.  Want to win a chance to own and scoot around town on a pink Vespa?  We’re giving one away in an exclusive raffle!  Whether it is yoga Telfair Square, a CrossFit competition in Daffin Park, tennis tournaments at clubs across Savannah, a hole-in-one tournament at Savannah Harbor, a pink clay shoot at the Forrest City Gun Club, or a fabulous survivor celebration at Jazz’s Tapas Bar and Restaurant – our mission is to empower women so that they make educated choices about their health, wellness, fitness, and esthetics!

#TurnItPink is seeking your support!  We hope you will partner with us by sponsoring our series of events.  Donor levels offer a variety of opportunities - each with its own benefits to you as a donor.  Consider sponsoring one of our exclusive events and stand out among our esteemed donors!  We feel strongly that this is a unique opportunity for you to present yourself in Savannah as being invested in the health and well-being of a remarkable target demographic in addition to the entire Savannah community.
